Ysgol Glan Clwyd

At Ysgol Glan Clwyd’s PE Dept we endeavour to provide the best opportunities for our students to participate in as much Physical exercise as possible whether it’s in curriculum time or extra curricular. The WSFA school’s cup in our opinion is by far the most organised and well run extra curricular competition available to schools. Every round is organised with clear deadlines, making organising games that much easier, leaving us more time to provide training rather than making phone calls or writing emails.
I’m very proud that we’ve reached the finals 3 times in the last 5 years with different age groups, and we finally won in 2019 with our U13 girls. They will now represent Wales in the British Schools Cup in October at Lilleshall against winners from the other home nations. The success of our girls teams and the fact that there are more opportunities available for them, has resulted in Girls football being placed on the curriculum over the last few years. It’s no coincidence, that this is a direct result of the introduction of the girls competition by WSFA.
Within Denbighshire we also hold ‘B’ team play football nights as the interest and fight for places in the first team for all age groups is healthy.
Thanks to Tim and the rest of the WSFA committee for their hard work year upon year.

Mr Arwyn Jones, Head of Physical Education.

Ysgol Treganna

Yet again this year, Ysgol Treganna eagerly awaited the start of the Cardiff & Vale Primary 5s festivals. The festivals for boys and girls have proven to be a successful platform for the school where the first, second and the girls footballing teams have expressed themselves on the football field.

As a school we fully appreciate the level of professionalism during these days as they are arranged excellently and the children use exceptional 4G playing facilities. There is a constant emphasis on enjoyment during these days and you can see the FAW’s moto of “Gorau Chwarae, Cyd-Chwarae” is firmly promoted.

For the second year running we were lucky enough to be chosen to represent the Cardiff & Vale Schools Football Association in the national festival day held at Lathem Park, the home of Newtown Football Club. We were blessed with excellent weather which provided the perfect foundation for the talent displayed by the future of budding Welsh footballers! The day was run superbly and followed the professional standard set by Tim and his team in Cardiff & Vale. It was truly a memorable day and the match programme was the icing on the cake as the children undoubtedly felt special when they saw their picture and name featured.
We played some excellent football and were close to becoming the most improved side which deservedly went to Ysgol Lon Las from Swansea.

Hopefully we can aim for the hat-trick  and represent the County yet again next year. However, we will be more than happy to play in the regionals and it’s a fantastic opportunity for the children to receive game time, aid development and moreover to have fun in a professional and safe manor. We would encourage any other primary school thinking about participating to definitely go for it

Mr Gareth Evans, Class Teacher and Leader of extra curricular football.

Ysgol Cwm Rhymni

Once again Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni pupils are eagerly awaiting the draw for the Welsh Schools' FA cup draw.

We are in the very competitive Mid Glamorgan area for the initial stages of the competition where the standards of play are improving every year!

As a school we have been fortunate to reach the finals of the competition twice in the last 5 years, losing to an excellent Eifionydd side in the U13 Girls 2013 final, but despite the result, it was an unforgettable day for the girls and their families. It was superbly organised by Tim Curtis and the WSFA officers and was an unforgettable occasion.

Fingers crossed we do well once again this coming season.

Tony Wilding, Mathematics teacher.
