Marathon Eryri

IT'S A MARATHON NOT A SPRINT!!

ABOUT US
Welsh Schools' F. A. are delighted to announce that Marathon Eryri (Snowdonia Marathon) have kindly agreed to sponsor the training kit and tracksuits for our u18 squad for the 2019/2020 Centenary Shield campaign.

The inaugural Marathon Eryri was held in 1982 it was conceived as a dramatic alternative to the numerous city and town races that were becoming so popular. The demanding and spectacular route, encircling Snowdon, Wales’ and England’s highest peak, has given the event a unique place in the annual marathon calendar ever since.

Snowdonia Marathon Cyf was formed by members of the local community and registered as a non-profit making company. Any funds raised by the event now go directly back in to the community through donations. Some funds are used to help to ensure the sustainability of the event. From the outset, the new organisation was determined the race would raise as much money for local causes as possible with 2007 seeing £11,000 going to local causes. Over £35,000 has been donated to local organisations and causes in the last 10 years. Event and race co-ordinator Jayne Lloyd “All of us at Brooks Marathon Eryri are incredibly proud to sponsor the WSFA U18 team. These are the athletes of the future within our own community and we feel privileged to be able to support them”.

The money has been used in a variety of ways from building a climbing wall in Llanberis’ primary school, to conservation work, sports kit for local teams, to helping fund trips for volunteering groups in Gwynedd.

MANAGERS THOUGHTS

Head of International Department, Marc Lloyd Williams, was delighted to have such a prestigious partner on board to support our u18 international team. “With its iconic setting in North West Wales, Marathon Eryri is one of the best marathons in the world and it is great to have them supporting our programme. They have been very supportive not only in supplying us with a donation towards the players’ training kit and tracksuits but also with nutritional supplements to aid their performances on the field”.

In 2011, Marathon Eryri was again voted the Best Marathon in the UK with the success being credited to the beautiful scenery, the runners that organise the race and the hospitality of the local people. In 2017 over 2800 runners registered in record time of only 8 hours and will once again take to the roads raising almost £1,000,000 for charity.

“We are hoping that this will become a long lasting partnership between ourselves and Marathon Eryri, which will no doubt benefit our organisation over the coming years.” Williams added.

This year’s marathon takes place on 28th October starting and finishing in Llanberis .
